For citizenship and residence permits

The level required depends on the job or the procedure. Naturalisation requires language proficiency plus a separate exam on the anthem, history and the Latvian Constitution.

Exam format

  • 🎧Listening, 25 minutes: dialogues, announcements, messages.
  • 📖Reading, 45 minutes: everyday documents and short texts.
  • ✍️Writing, 45 minutes: a form, a message, a continuous text.
  • 🎤Speaking, 15 minutes: introduction, description, conversation.

Scoring

Each paper is marked separately. You must reach the threshold in all four to be awarded the level.

Photo ID and your registration letter are required. Depending on the centre, the speaking test is taken on the same day or separately.

Preparing for the Valsts valodas prasmes parbaude with OpiFluent
